Construction dust does not behave like household dust. Clearing it properly takes multiple passes, and doing it in one pass is why homeowners give up.
Our post-construction cleaning checklist
Our post-construction process, in the order we work:
Pass one: debris and gross removal
Leftover material scraps, packaging, tape, protective film and dust sheets removed. Loose debris swept and vacuumed out of every room, closet and cabinet.
Pass two: high to low detail
Ceilings, light fixtures, fan blades, vents, door tops, trim and cabinet tops vacuumed with HEPA filtration, then wiped. Walls dusted. Windows, sills and tracks cleared of dust and adhesive residue.
Pass three: settle and repeat
After the air settles, every horizontal surface is re-wiped, floors are vacuumed and mopped again, and glass is cleaned last so it is not re-filmed by later work.
Dust and residue removal

- Drywall dust removed from vents, registers and return covers
- Window tracks, frames and sills cleared of dust and grit
- Adhesive, sticker and protective-film residue removed from windows and appliances
- Paint specks and caulk residue removed from glass, tile and fixtures
- Grout haze removed from new tile
- Cabinet interiors and drawers vacuumed and wiped
- Light fixtures, fans and switch plates detailed
Surfaces and finishes
- New countertops cleaned with finish-appropriate products
- Appliance exteriors and interiors cleaned, protective film removed
- Fixtures, hardware and handles polished
- Baseboards, trim and door frames washed
- Mirrors and glass cleaned last, after dust work is finished
- New floors vacuumed then mopped with the manufacturer-appropriate method
Timing your final clean
Book us after the trades are done, not between them. Every additional cut, sand or install puts fresh dust into the air, which means paying for a clean that gets undone the next morning. The exception is a rough clean partway through a long project, which we are happy to quote separately.
A single-room remodel typically takes four to six hours. A whole-home renovation is usually a multi-day job. We will walk the space before quoting, because dust load varies enormously depending on whether drywall was cut on site and how well the area was contained.
Not included in this service
We would rather set the expectation up front than have you discover it afterwards. Several of these can be added on request. Just ask.
- Hauling away construction debris, lumber, or contractor materials
- Anything requiring scaffolding or ladders above two stories
- Removing paint overspray from surfaces where removal would damage the finish
- Exterior site cleanup, dumpster loading, or landscaping debris
- Sealing, waxing or refinishing floors, grout or stone
- Work in an active job site (trades must be finished before we start)
Post-Construction Cleaning questions
When should I schedule the final clean?
After every trade has finished and left, including punch-list touch-ups. Painters returning for a second coat, or a trim carpenter coming back for one door, will re-dust the areas already cleaned. If the schedule is uncertain, book us loosely and confirm two days out.
Why does construction dust keep coming back?
Drywall dust is extremely fine and stays suspended in the air for hours. When you clean everything in one pass, the particles still airborne settle onto what you just finished. That is why we work in staged passes with settling time between them. It is the only approach that actually holds.
Do you clean inside the HVAC system?
We clean vent and register covers and vacuum what is reachable inside the boot. Full duct cleaning is a specialized service with different equipment, and after a significant renovation it is genuinely worth having done. We will tell you if we think your system needs it.
Can you work around a contractor still finishing up?
We would rather not, and we will be honest that it wastes your money. If the timeline requires it, we can clean finished zones and return for the rest, but the return visit is billed as its own job because the finished zones will need re-doing.
